Hi guys, just to share something that I’ve read from Inspiring Women for my devotion. Hope you like it!
Title: God has moulding hands
Verse: “Jer. 18:1-6” (NKJV) “ 1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying: 2 “Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words.” 3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying: 6 “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?” says the LORD. “Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel!”
In this passage of Scriputure God was demonstrating to Jermiah the lesson of the potter: nothing is too much bother to Him!
Clay is so cheap that it really need not be used again – after all, its basically just a certain kind of soil dug up from the ground. When a vessel goes wrong in the making on the potter’s wheel, it might just as well be discarded and fresh clay taken to enable the potter to begin again. If a vessel is broken, it can be ground down to powder, then water added again to make fresh clay. But why do that when clay is cheap?
God does not have to remake a marred vessel any more than He had to tolerate humanity after the Fall. He could have wiped out Adam and Eve and started again with another perfect pair, but He did not. WHY?
The reason is simply this: it would have been wonderful if mankind had passed from innocence to perfection through testing and temptation, and if Adam and Eve had resisted every advance of the devil. But things didn’t happen that way. Instead of discarding the faulty vessels, His plan of redemption intends to make us, in the end, something greater that we could ever have been if we’d never been part of a fallen race. It’s far more wonderful for man to pass from guilt, through redemption, to holiness!
This should be such an encouragement to those of us who are depressed about what happens in 2008, because, it seems that things are failing constantly. Take heart, my friend! God is not dismayed. He takes marred vessel in His hands and remakes them, sometimes over and over again, until they become something greater that was possible any other way.
Prayer: Thank You, Heavenly Father, for encouraging us that You will not discard vessels that become marred, but You work on them until they become what You want them to be. Sharing By: Qiu
